Slocan Blu Starr Property - History PDF Print E-mail

The Valhalla Metamorphic Complex (VMC) has been subject to regional 1:250,000 scale geological mapping by H.W. Little (1960, 1985) and detailed 1:63,360 mapping by J.E. Reesor (1965) as part of a comprehensive study of the Valhalla Complex. More recently, P. Schaubs and S. Carr (1998) published a paper and compilation maps reviewing and updating the geological understanding of the VMC (see Figs 3,4).

In the early 1990’s, local prospectors R.Luchansky, J. Demers and M. Goldenberg carried out exploration on portions of the current area of the Slocan property. During this period, the Blu Starr and Blu Moon sapphire (corundum) deposits were discovered. In 1995, Anglo Swiss Resources Inc. purchased the Blu Starr property from the prospecting partners, subject to a royalty agreement and also acquired 100% title to surrounding prospective ground.

Concentrated mapping and sampling programs were carried out on the Blu Moon and Blu Starr sapphire zones from 1995 to 1998. In 1998, R. Luchansky discovered gem quality garnet on the mountainside, near the Blu Starr sapphire occurrence, with subsequent bulk-sampling work completed.

Also in 1998, J. Laird discovered Iolite and graphite occurrences on the property. The most recent exploration of the Anglo Swiss-Slocan property was carried out in 2000, when a joint venture agreement was made between Anglo Swiss and Hampton Court Resources Inc.

Under the Hampton Court joint venture, further exploration of the various gemstone zones was carried out through mapping, prospecting, geophysical surveys (magnetic, VLF-EM) as well as limited bulk sampling of promising areas.

In 2000, the Tedesco grid area was covered by 22.8 kilometers of magnetic and VLF-EM surveys. Coincident magnetic and VLF-EM anomalies followed the general NE-SW trend of known graphite occurrences, throughout the grid area.

As the gemstone potential of the Slocan property is not the current exploration focus for this report, more detailed information regarding general exploration of gemstones on the Slocan property can be found in B.C. Assessment Report 26537 – “Geology, Geophysics and Economic Potential of the Slocan Gemstone Property” (Laird, Geiger, 2001)
